Blogging and Teaching

Blogs are such a wonderful way to connect with your students as well as with the parents. Most parents want to know what is going on with their students most, and by providing a website and a blog to post information and homework on you are communicating with the parents without actually communicating with them.
One could use blogs as a way to post homework assignments or even what happened in class that day. It would also be a good idea to post any handouts that students might have received that day, so if a student is absent they can just check the blog to see what they missed. You could post your schedule so the parents know what is happening with their child's' day. Technology is such a wonderful way to inform parents and students about your classroom. It lets parents know that a teacher cares enough about their students to put in the extra effort to make a blog.
Blogging also provides a way for students to have discussions with other students about an assignment. Sometimes it's easier for students to do discussions online because they might be too shy to say anything in class.
Technology gives teachers many opportunities to be better teachers. Blogs provides a way to let parents and students know about what is happening in your classroom. I would have never thought to use a blog for professional use until this class. I can't wait to use it when I'm a teacher. It sets teachers apart from other teachers, because it doesn't only show that they are proficient in technology, but it shows that they are willing to go the extra mile.
